Attitudes & Leadership

I was talking with the varsity basketball coach yesterday during open gym about keeping our youth occupied with sports so they have fewer chances of getting themselves into trouble because when they have too much time on their hands and not enough to do, trouble will probably find them.

Athletes are not exempt from problems. Just turn on ESPN - unfortunately, you will see more athletes getting into all kinds of problems.

Student-athletes, just like any other student, act the way they are taught. If coach, or even the team captain, has bad habits, the rest of the team will soon follow suit.

The following line from the movie Remember the Titans demonstrates this to the T.
Attitude reflect leadership, captain. - Julius

Coaches and leaders, if you want your team to display good sportsmanship, hard work, teamwork and a winning attitude, you have to display these characteristics yourself. Your athletes and followers will demonstrate what they have learned from you. They are a mirror of your attitude and mindset.

Make someone's day and perform a random act of kindness. It will rub off on them.
